Facebook is facing a class action lawsuit for allegedly violating its members' right to privacy. The social network is being sued by members who claim that the company intercepts private messages, without consent, to mine the data for its own profit.
It alleges that Facebook systematically intercepts messages to mine user data and profits by sharing it with data aggregators, advertisers and marketers.
Facebook said the allegations were "without merit" and "we will defend ourselves vigorously".
Facebook deliberately misleads its users into thinking that private messages are private, and then goes and finds links in the messages and gives the information to third parties, makes Facebook look straight-up villainous.
in the wake of a legal action launched in 2011, Facebook paid $20m to compensate over 150 million users who claimed it had used their data without permission. The group said their details had been used to promote products and services through the site's Sponsored Stories programme. The court estimated that Facebook had made about $73m (£47m) in profit from the Sponsored Stories featuring details of the 150 million members.
