Google to shut down news site in Spain over copyright fees

 

(Reuters) - Google said it plans to close its news-linking service in Spain in response to legislation under which publishers will soon be able to force Internet sites to pay for re-publishing headlines or snippets of news.

Google to launch kid-friendly versions of Chrome, YouTube in 2015

 

Google is currently working on versions of products like Chrome and YouTube tailored specifically for kids under the age of 13, according to a report from USA Today. Pavni Diwanji, a VP of engineering at Google, says that the new products are due at some point next year and that they are intended to help children "...be more than just pure consumers of tech, but creators, too."

Court agrees that Google’s search results qualify as free speech

 

The regulation of Google's search results has come up from time to time over the past decade, and although the idea has gained some traction in Europe (most recently with “right to be forgotten” laws), courts and regulatory bodies in the US have generally agreed that Google's search results are considered free speech. That consensus was upheld last Thursday, when a San Francisco Superior Court judge ruled in favor of Google's right to order its search results as it sees fit.
